Depository Participant Operations

            A depository can be compared to a bank and the depository participants can be compared to a branch of the bank. Depository holds securities of investors in electronic form. Depositors interface with the investors through its depository participants (DPs). If an investor wants to utilize the services offered by a depository, the investor has to open an account with a DP.

            Central Securities depository Limited (CSDL) is the depository and CSBL is the depository participant. The main objectives of a depository are to reduce settlement risk by minimizing the paperwork involved in trading, settlement and transferring securities.

The services offered by DP are: -

�        Rematerialization.

�        Account Transfer.

�        Pledge / Hypotication.
